Nantong Sunway Ships Two Custom CNC Machines for Aero-Engine Turbine Blade Micro-Hole Drilling

Built for a Demanding Application

Turbine blades used in modern aero engines rely on arrays of precisely positioned micro-holes to channel cooling air across the blade surface during operation, a feature critical to engine efficiency and service life. Producing these holes calls for machines that combine high positioning accuracy, rigid multi-axis motion, and repeatable process control on parts that are large, geometrically complex, and made from difficult-to-machine superalloys.

To meet these requirements, Sunway's engineering team designed both units around a heavy-duty gantry-style frame with a vertically traveling spindle column, giving each machine the working envelope needed to accommodate oversized turbine blade fixtures while maintaining the stiffness required for stable micro-hole drilling.

Each machine was carefully wrapped and secured before being lifted onto flatbed trucks for transport. Sunway's production and logistics teams coordinated the loading process to protect the machines' precision components during transit, ensuring both units arrive at the customer's facility ready for installation and commissioning.
